UNO - The world's first "unicycle" motorbike

Posted by The Editor on 04/29/2008

This cool looking gizmo that looks like a unicycle is actually a prototype (sample) of a motorbike with two wheels - except the two wheels are situated side-by-side instead of back-to-back. Invented by 18-year old Ben Gulak, the Uno is not only cool but also green - Its engine is powered by an electric motor.

Ben, who lives in Canada, got the idea after a visit to China, where he saw thousands of people driving around in little bikes that were polluting the environment. However, he realized that a 'green" vehicle also had to look cool - and the design for the Uno was born.

The motorbike is also very simple to ride.  It just has an on/off switch and then is controlled entirely by body movement. The driver has to lean forward to accelerate and lean back to slow down.

The best part about the Uno is that it is really small and weighs only 120lbs, which means it can be carried into the house and plugged in to a regular electricity outlet for charging. When the engine is fully charged, the Uno can be ridden for about two and a half hours.

Ben unveiled his invention at the 2008 National Motorcycle Show in Toronto last month and is hoping to find investors to finance the production of Uno. We sure hope he succeeds!
