Thousands of dog lovers gathered at a fashion show in Tokyo, Japan this weekend, to watch designers strut their latest collection for..........yes dogs. Dogs of different breeds paraded on a real runway, wearing demi-couture (kind of like designer, just a little cheaper) and avant-garde (really modern) collections designed especially for this event.

In case you think this is a Japanese idea, think again - the company that put up the show and the designers that participated, are based out of the our very own Big Apple (New York City). Pet Fashion Week NY, was specially invited by Tokyo Broadcasting Systems to organize this event in Tokyo.

Pet Fashion Week NY, has been having these doggie designer fashion shows since 2006. Their mission is to bring buyers (mostly retail shops) and designers together, just before the right "buying" season. Besides clothing, the dogs also parade designer jewelry and accessories, collars and leashes, new toys and in case your pet wants that extra edge - pet perfume.

To top it all, these shows are organized in the same way as designer clothing shows for people are. The night before the event, there is a black-tie dinner that benefits a charity for dogs and, the events are held in really posh places.

In case you are interested, this year's New York City event is scheduled for the weekend of August 23rd and will be held at the Metropolitan Pavilion in NYC. I guess what they say is true - It is really a dog's world out there!

Below watch two fun videos of the actual shows - the first one is from last year's show held in New York City. The second one is of the more recent one held last weekend in Tokyo. Hope you enjoy them as much as we did.
