They came dressed as princes and princesses, rockstars and cheerleaders. Some even painted their paw nails and wore bikini tops and grass skirts! However, in the end it all came down to plain old good looks. Buddy, a three-year old bulldog who came completetly unadorned, stole the show, and was crowned "Most Beautiful Bulldog".

The annual affair organized by Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, is one of the events leading up to the Drake Relays, one of the nation's oldest and most prestigious track and field competitions.

Buddy will be Drake's mascot for the event and be paraded in a golf cart in front of over 18,000 spectators on Saturday.

Buddy, who normally spends his days lazing around and sleeping, was wide-eyed at the crowning ceremonies, but did seem a little exhausted at the end of it all. According to his owners, he worked very hard to get ready for this event. He has been going for walks to try and get in shape for it. All his hard work certainly paid off - he beat out 50 other "beautiful" bulldogs to win the event. His owners are very proud of him and can't wait to get back home and tell Buddy's mother about her beautiful son!
