Like any other dog, three-year old Kody has to drag his owner, if he wants a walk - except in Kody's case it means literally pulling Alan Smith's wheelchair, as he dashes through the streets of Clifton, Nottingham.

Alan, who suffers from a bone dehabilitating disease called Polio, has been wheelchair-bound for the last 15 years. A few years ago, his wife and he, decided to get a dog for companionship, and brought home Kody, a Jack Russell Terrier.

Initially, the three of them would go out together, with Kody's leash tied to Mr. Smith's wheelchair and Mrs. Smith riding alongside on a bicycle. However, they soon realized that Kody was both capable and smart enough to take Alan, on his own - giving Mrs. Smith some well-deserved rest.

Now the two of them take off for half-an-hour every day, with Kody galloping at a speed of 15mph, sometimes rattling poor Alan's bones on bumpy pavements. Kody stops only at traffic lights and of course if sees a cat or smells something interesting!

Both dog and owner love their daily routine, and thanks to all the exercise, Kody has been declared really fit by his veterinarian. Kody's talents don't end here - he opens doors for his owner and also brings him small items of clothing, like shoes and socks.

However, the one thing this little dog, is particular about is the brand of dog food he eats. He will only consume a brand called Hero - as of course is fitting for a true hero like Kody! No wonder they say dogs are man's best friend!
