In 2009, German car manufacturer Volkswagen launched 'The Fun Theory', campaign to see if people would change their habits if performing a mundane task was made fun. After coming up with great ideas, like the Piano Stairs, Bottle Bank Arcade and the Deep Trash Can, they challenged the public to do the same.

Hundreds of people submitted videos with the ideas ranging from making a fun scratch mat to give people an incentive to wipe their shoes, to making cleaning so much fun that kids would willingly spend hours doing it.

The $5,000 USD winning entry, was submitted by Kevin Richardson from California. His fun idea was to take a picture of the registration plates of all the cars that are driving within the speed limit and entering the names in a lottery. Winners would receive cash prizes in the mail, from a winning pot created from the money collected from drivers who were caught speeding.
