Vending machines have come a long way since British inventor Percival Everitt built the first coin-operated contraption in 1883 to dispense postcards. Today they can dish out a variety of goodies ranging from cold sodas to electronics, clothing, and even steaming hot pizza. Now Phoenix-based Carvana has taken vending machines to a whole new level with one that dispenses cars!

The online auto sales company has been working on this unique concept since 2013. However, the inaugural car vending machine that was opened in Atlanta required customers to go through an extensive verification process before the vehicle could be released and driven away.

That requirement has been eliminated at the five-story glass vending machine that was opened in Nashville, in early November. Customers that complete the online purchase and opt to choose to pick-up from the vending machine are given a coin with a unique code. All they need to do is insert it just like one would do for any other vending machine purchase and then watch as the car of their choice gets dispensed for them to collect and drive away!
