Can Penguins Fly?

Posted by Editor on 04/11/2008

Penguins are described as "flightless aquatic birds" - yet this video filmed and broadcast by the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) in the United Kingdom shows them flying. So what gives?

The television company said that their camera crew discovered this amazing colony of Adelie penguins while filming at St. George Island in the Antarctica and they screened it on April 1st, 2008 as part of their new natural history series called, "Miracles of Evolution".

That video was almost too good to be true wasn't it?  If you thought your eyes were deceiving you, they were! The video above was filmed using a lot of animation tricks ( the kind you see in movies like "The Incredibles and "Ratatouille") and was part of BBC's age-old annual tradition of fooling its audience on April Fools Day. While the video above was amazing, what is even more amazing is how they put it together. Below watch a behind-the-scenes video of the making of "The Flying Penguins. We would love to know what you thought of both the videos and if it was realistic enough to fool you.  Be sure to add your contributions below.
