If you thought the fireworks at the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics in Beijing were spectacular, you will be even more amazed by the ones staged for the party held in Dubai last night, to celebrate the opening of the $1.5 billion USD Atlantis Resort.

The $20mm USD party, was attended by 2,000 guests, and included Hollywood celebrities, business leaders, as well as, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai.

Australian singer Kylie Minogue entertained guests while they dined on lobster, ethnic Middle Eastern fare and champagne.

The highlight of the evening was the fireworks. One million of them, about ten times the number used in Beijing, lit up the skies of Dubai. The organizers claimed that the fireworks were so bright that they could be seen from Space.

While Dubai is used to extravagant celebrations, a party like this had never been held before. However, Sol Kerzner, the owner of the hotel, believes that something as extraordinary as the Atlantis Resort, deserved to have a launch that was equally extraordinary.

Set on 113 acres, the 1,539 room Atlantis resort, based on the legend of the lost city of Atlantis, sits on an artificial palm tree-shaped island known as the Palm Jumeirah. Among its many attractions are a Dolphin Bay - three vast lagoons where guests can interact with dolphins and Aqua Adventure, a giant water park for both adults and kids.

However, the most incredible attraction is the Lost Chambers, a large underground aquarium that features a maze of tunnels resembling the ruins of the ancient city of Atlantis. Visitors walking through will experience the sensation of walking underwater, surrounded by 65,000 marine animals.

The hotel has 17 restaurants, featuring some of the most famous chefs from all over the World. The rooms, which start at about $800USD a night, range from standard to the Lost Chambers suites, which are situated in the midst of the aquarium.

However for the ultimate in luxury, there is the one and only Bridge Suite, which at $25,000 USD a night, is believed to be the most expensive hotel suite in the World. Situated on top of the bridge that connects the two Atlantis towers, it has three bedroom suites which all boast floor to ceiling views of the Palm Jumeirah, Dubai and the Arabian Sea. While the cost includes a personal butler and use of a gold-leaf table that seats 16, guests living here still have to pay extra for their meals!
