Last Wednesday, 15-year old Benjamin Russell was declared the official winner of the 33rd "Odor Eaters Rotten Sneaker" contest. Apparently, his sneakers were sooooooooo smelly, that the judges almost fainted!
The annual contest organized by Odor Eaters, a company that manufactures foot odor products, was held in the small town of Montepelier, Vermont. The eight-finalists, ranging from seven to seventeen, were the winners of regional contests held in different parts of the country. They all had one thing in common - really smelly sneakers!
The judges which include "Master Sniffer" George Aldrich, who is a chemical specialist for NASA Space missions and Rachel Herz, a professor at Brown University, look for sneakers that are in really bad condition and most importantly smell really awful.
Benjamin's stratgey to get his sneakers smelly was to wear the same sneakers for hunting, camping and fishing over the last two summers. His strategy paid off! For his efforts he received a check for $2,500, a Golden Sneaker award trophy, a years supply of Odor Eaters products and an all expenses paid trip to New York to see the Broadway show " The Lion King" - as for the offensive sneakers that brought him all this fortune - they get their own special spot in the Odor-Eaters "Hall of Fumes".
So what are you waiting for - start working on getting those sneakers as dirty and smelly as you can possibly can - and see if you can win the next "Odor Eaters Rotten Sneaker" contest!
