8.00pm (local time) Saturday, March 29th is Earth Hour. This is when millions of people and businesses around the world will switch off all lights for one hour. The idea behind Earth Hour is to show people how much impact each individual can have in curbing the effects of global warming.

Earth Hour originated in Sydney, Australia. On March 31st, 2007 at 7.30 pm Sydney went dark for one hour, when 2.3 million residents and 2,100 businesses switched off their lights. Even some of Sydney's most famous landmarks, the Opera House and the Sydney Harbor, joined the movement.

This simple act resulted in cutting back 10% of the city's electricity consumption for one hour, the equivalent of the carbon dioxide emitted by 48,000 cars on the road in an hour.

This year, the movement has grown and many cities around the globe are planning to participate - ranging from San Francisco (USA) to Toronto (Canada) to Tel Aviv (Israel). For further information about this event go to www.earthhour.org.

Pass this information to all your family and friends and let's all try make a difference - one light switch at a time!
