If you happen to visit the remote village of Kodhini in the Indian State of Kerala, you will have to take a lot of double takes - that's because the village of 2,000 residents is brimming with identical twins - 250 sets to be exact!

Doctors have no idea why so many twins are born in this village, a phenomenon that began about 60 years ago. Over the years, the incidence of twins has increased with over 60 sets born just in the last five years.

In fact, there are so many twins being born that residents, who have nicknamed Kodhini 'twin town', recently set up a Twin and Kin Association (TAKA), to help educate and support them.

The best part is, that most of the twins are identical! While the twins range in age from 1-month to 65 years of age, most of them are under the age of 20.

This prompts a little bit of mischief especially among the younger pairs, who often fool their teachers and peers by switching with each other.

While the villagers shrug off this phenomenon and are used to seeing double, scientists are trying to figure out what it is about the area that makes it so prone to twins. We wonder if the mystery will ever be solved.
