Last week, people all across the world woke up to the horrifying image of this two-year old tied to a lamppost in the city of Beijing, China. However, the reason behind the shackles is not one of cruelty but a desperate attempt by a father to protect his son!

Jingdan's parents are poor immigrants from the Chinese countryside, who have a hard time paying for even their basic necessities like food and shelter. To make matters worse, his mother became so sick that she was unable to take care of little Jingdan and his four-year old sister, Jinghong.

Left with no alternative, their dad, Chen Chuanliu, a rickshaw driver started taking them to work with him. However, every time someone hired him, he was forced to leave the two toddlers unsupervised, on the busy streets of Beijing.

On January 22nd, a new tragedy struck this poor family. Four-year old Jinghong disappeared, and has yet to be found. To prevent his son from suffering the same fate, the desperate father decided to tie little Jingdan to a lamppost every time he had to work.

However, thanks to the publicity generated by the photograph, his plight was noticed by the president of Albeia Kindergarten in Beijing. The kind man has offered the little cutie a spot in his day care for the next three years - at no cost.

Chen has gratefully accepted the kind offer and has now turned his attention to his other problem - Looking for his four-year old daughter, Jinghong. We hope he finds her soon!
