National Geographic has done it again! The Cutest Animals on the Planet is a must have for any animal lover-such as me. This book would also become a part of my shared library that I am creating and reading to my younger sister Girl Scouts to teach them how important animals are and to help them earn their Red Robin Award. I am an NG enthusiast and have several NG books that I love and read and reread over and over again. I would be over the moon, like the cow in "Hey Diddle, Diddle" if I am able to win a copy of this book.

Abracadabra! Abraca-don’t? Do you believe in magic? Well, you just might after you read Dan Gutman’s “Houdini and Me”. Harry Mancini, an 11-year old amateur magician, has a unique connection to Harry Houdini, an infamous escape artist. And his story will have you wondering, “How did he do that?” Not only do the two share the same first name, but Harry Mancini was born and is living in the same house that magician Harry Houdini lived in the last years of his life. This New York City house has a sign posted outside that Harry boastfully shows off and Harry even becomes a Houdini historian by reading and learning as much about Houdini, as well as a few tricks of his own. What else do these two Harrys share? Communication. After waking up in the hospital, Harry’s adventure begins. Amongst his get-well cards, candies, and gifts, he finds an old flip cell phone. Was this a gift? Was it a prank? Either way you answer, the flip phone becomes a time machine between two worlds, Harry’s and Houdini’s. Houdini had found a way to communicate after death! Harry eagerly wants to learn the secrets to some of Houdini’s escapes; and he does- through their text messages. With some persistence, Harry agrees to be a part of a magic trick. For one-hour, Harry switches lives with Houdini. Harry finds himself in the 1920’s in one of Houdini’s famous straitjacket escape tricks and Houdini is excited that, in the 21st century, people still know who he is! Is this the beginning of a bigger magic trick? What happens next will leave you applauding for more! This is a page turner read with each chapter’s cliff hanger leaving you grappling for more. The story is filled with historical facts about New York City, Houdini’s life, and tricks. The illustrations are original photographs and posters of Houdini and New York City. This give a hint of realism, sprinkled with a little magic dust to the book.

This series is starting to grow on me as I am a big NG fan. Some of the mystery is not too hard to figure out, but the adventures and challenges in the series are really cool. I don't own a copy and would like to start building the series in my library. Books 1-4 are on my wish list, too! Fun to read and tons of action.

unicornbrainliked a comment in The Ickabog.
Once upon a time in Cornucopia, a country rich with gold and fine, delicate foods, lived two friends, Bert and Daisy, who, along with their families and neighbors, loved the favorable Fearless King Fred. Their lives in Cornucopia, however, were peppered with the legend of a horrid beast living amidst the marsh. Some say myth. Some say truth. Either way, the Ickabog casted a shadow over the kingdom. The joys of Cornucopia were not shaken after a shepherd reports his dog being devoured by the Ickabog. But when King Fred and his army vow to hunt the Ickabog and bring vengeance, a horrible accident turns the myth of the Ickabog into a shocking reality.  Secrets, lies, and deception are mixed together and become a new recipe for the characters to create a delicious plot twist, revealing the true antagonist. Is King Fred truly fearless? How will two friends Daisy and Bert, once separated, find each other and help solve the mystery of the Ickabog? With each chapter leading to a new cliff hanger, J.K. Rowling has written a page turner so that you may find yourself reading the entire book in one sitting! I enjoyed reading about the unbreakable spirits and friendships of the people of Cornucopia. Rowling brings the flare of "Redwall" into "The Ickabog" making this a book that stands apart from "Harry Potter" all on its own.
