1.In early September, there were people in the course of the hot lava that has been spewing from the Kilauea volcano since June. a.The two rural communities are Ka'ohe Homestead and Pahoa on Hawaii's Big Island. 2. The Hawaiian County Civil Defense has rebuilt two gravel roads that can be used as optional escape routes if necessary. 3.They are planning to rebuild there lives when the lava flow subsides because that is where they lived all there lives. Critical Thinking Question: The differences between volcanic explosions and earthquake are that a volcanic explosion is when a volcano "throws up" lava. But a earthquake is when the tectonic plates split apart and rumble and shake the ground. Another difference is that volcano occurs less often than a earthquake. In some ways they are the same. For an example, they are the same because they are both natural disasters and they both can kill people.

    1. Benjamin Radford spends his time investigating and resolving, with logical explanations. a. Benjamin Radford says he likes helping solve spooky mysteries that people don't want to solve. 2. The latest ghost sighting was when a policeman saw a translucent figure sliding across the floor at the police station and it went through a metal fence. a. Some of the evidence was that a policeman caught it on tape. 3.The legend of Chupacabra was that he was the goat-blood sucking vampire-dog. a. It originated in Puerto Rico. b. Benjamin Radford was able to prove Chupacabra didn't exist after some painstaking investigation that involved DNA testing on the carcass of the alleged monster that had been found in Texas, Radford was able to definitely conclude that no such animal existed and that the goats were being slaughtered by either dogs or coyotes. Critical Thinking Question: In order to be a ghost buster, you have to be brave so you can find ghosts and spooks and stuff like that.

    1. The Stanford researchers were trying to find the answer to how long is an average kid's memory. a. It was important to know because some teachers would like to know things like that. 2. They got a group of 28 kids from ages 7-9 and had them take a " math test.". Then a year after that they took the same kids a did the same test. This time, the kids were better at memorizing the facts because their memory was long term. So they did the same thing to the the same kids when they were adults, and they were even better because their memory got longer as they got older. 3. The kids got a longer memory as they got older. a. Dr. Menon plans on investigating even farther. Critical Thinking Question: Learning the basics of any subject is really important because then you can do better in life because you know your facts.

1.The UAE decided to build Masdar city because they wanted a city that didn't rely on energy to sustain it.2.Some of the features are that they have self-driving pods and mushroom things that bring down air into the streets.3.People think that Masdar will never be completed because it estimated to cost 20 billion dollars. The author doesn't think the experiment will go bust because it can still be used in older countries like New York and London. Critical Thinking Challenge: The driver-less pods would be great for our city because all of our streets are really busy

What is Masdar City? Why did the UAE decide to build it?Masdar city is a energy saving city many believe it's going to be the city of the future I HOPE IT WILL!It will solve all traffic problems. What are some of the features that help reduced the city's energy and water needs? The features they have are that they use solar panels & plant towers to help with energy. Then came the challenge of conserving water, which is of ultra importance given that Abu Dhabi gets an average of just 2.5 inches of rain annually. In Masdar, 80% of "greywater" from washing machines, sinks, baths, and showers, is purified and re-cycled Why do some people believe that Masdar City will never be completed? Why does the author believe that the experiment is still successful?!Most people believe that it will cost to much money, but she believes if other cites participate it just might be pulled off!
