Twelve-year-old Sunny St. James has a new perspective on life after she gets a heart transplant. Now that she's healthier, she sets out to do things she could never do before, which includes making a new best friend and kissing a boy. But as her plans progress and she seems to be moving in the right direction, Sunny's mother comes back into her life, dampening Sunny's happiness. And as she enjoys her new best friend, Quinn, she begins to suspect that she's not interested in kissing boys after all. I loved this book and how it introduced the idea of being lesbian. In fact, it is one of the Lone Star Books. (Texan librarians choose this book because they thought it was awesome.)

Twelve-year-old Coyote and Rodeo (her father, but don't tell him that!) rush to Poplin Springs, Washington in their old school bus to save a memory box buried by coyote's dead mother and sisters in a park that will soon be demolished. This book literally made me cry. It had a special way of describing grief and sadness. I loved this book and I think everyone should read it. Plus Coyote and Rodeo have good taste in books.

Nearly sixty years ago, Albert Einstein developed a mathematical formula that could either benefit all society or destroy it. He called it Pandora. Fearing its power, Einstein hid it, and the CIA has been searching ever since. Now, a new nefarious entity searches for Pandora as well, and out of options, CIA agent, Dante Garcia recruits the rebellious twelve-year-old super-genius Charlie Thorne to help locate Pandora and keep it safe. The mission takes her all over the world and endangers her life, but Charlie uses her superior intellect to escape the bad guys and save the world. I loved this book and it was a book that really appealed to me. I am a big feminist and I loved that bit of history in the book. 10/10 for Stuart Gibbs.

Twelve-year-old Emmy investigates the connection between her father's disappearance and a secret society at her prestigious English boarding school. Her mom seems to care about her career more than her and her mother suddenly shipping her off to another country doesn't make it any better. I loved this book because it was getting serious Harry Potter vibes from it. P.S. Keep an eye on Jonas.

A football injury at training camp leaves Teddy in a coma, barely alive. His friends and family gather to support him and discuss events leading to his accident. In Teddy's get well forum, strange things have been coming up. But it's all fake. It is not like Teddy's football friends had something to do with his injury! Right? Told through dialogue, text messages, newspaper articles, transcripts, an online forum, and Teddy's inner thoughts. I am not a football person but I still loved the book. Hats off to you, Mr.Greenwald!

Sal prides himself on being an excellent magician, but when he starts attending a new school, Gabi Reál discovers Sal's secret: he can reach into other dimensions and pull things into their dimension, including different versions of his dead mother. There's only one problem: Sal's manipulation of time and space is putting the entire universe at risk. Sal, Gabi, and their friends and family, as well as a sassy entropy sweeper, will have to work to make things right. I loved this book and cannot believe it all started with a dead chicken and a dead mother. If Carlos Hernandez had written or writes any more books, I need to read them.

Ella's "ugly" stepsister Isabelle cuts off her toes in an attempt to fit into the glass slipper, but her plan fails. She now lives in exile after the town turns its backs on her family. One day Isabelle encounters the same fairy queen who helped Ella and wishes to be pretty. The fairy queen sends her on a quest to find the pieces of her heart lost to bitterness before she grants the wish. Then Isabelle meets the Marquis de la Chance who steals the map of Isabelle's life from the Fates and offers her a chance at redemption. Caught between opposing wills, Isabelle is unwittingly placed at the center of a battle between her beloved France and an evil warlord who wants to take over the country. But it is in this position that Isabelle discovers her true wish and her true self. This book is a surprising and beautiful twist on Cinderella. Plus, did I mention I am a feminist. Totally shows the constraints of society and women's freedom. Turns out that even perfect Ella can become jealous. I cannot wait to get my hands on her next book! Poisoned. A twist on Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

When DJ ParSec, a rising star on the music scene, is found dead on her turntables, her best friend, Kya, and chief groupie, Fuse, put their differences aside in order to get to the bottom of who killed her and why. And ParSec's fans have taken to social media with a rabid determination to get answers. Failure to solve the crime could mean more murder from the Darknation or from ParSec's killer.
