The genre of my book is realistic fiction, written by Ben M. Baglio. The story is about 2 kids. The boy is visiting his aunt with his friend and the boy’s cousin has a rabbit. The rabbit gets sick but the girl helps and it gets better. And he is able to continue in a competition for the rabbit that looks best for a picture on a chocolate bar. The main characters are Mandy Hope and James Hunter. Mandy loves animals and wants to help every single one. If an animal is injured she is kind, caring, and gentle to it.James loves animals almost as much as Mandy, but he likes dogs more than anything and is even willing to walk the naughty dog, Herring. James also likes to help Mandy with the animals. Two key events that “added” to the plot and the plot is when the dog, Herring was running around in a room full of rabbits. The first thing that added to the plot is when a girl named “Angelica Angell” kept screaming in the very noisy room which made everything worse. The second key event that “added”to the plot is when Herring the dog charged towards Mandy, but when she said STOP everyone became silent. How the main character changes is in the beginning Mandy keeps asking if she can pet Nadia’s rabbit Pixie, but then she realizes that she doesn’t want her to pet him. I know this because on page 13 it says “Can I pet him.” One unanswered question I would like to ask the author is”why he decided to make the rabbit sick when everything was going so well.” What I enjoyed most about this story is when Nadia and her rabbit, Pixie won the competition instead of the girl Angelica because a girl that likes to brag and say mean things doesn’t deserve to get a prize or to win at ALL. I would recommend this book because it has a lesson in it which is to never worry or be overprotective so much. I think the lesson of this book is to not worry too much because in the story on page 12 Nadia sounds protective when she says “Pixie doesn’t really like strangers.” but then Nadia realizes that it’s okay to let some people pet Pixie. On page 106 it states “Pixie yanked his head away from Mandy’s touch.” So then it means that Nadia had let Mandy hold her rabbit and that she wasn’t worried anymore, but Pixie pulled away because he was sick and had tooth pain.
