The hysterical #1 New York Times bestseller from Newbery honoree Carl Hiaasen featuring gators, snakes, bats that bite, and reality show hosts gone wild!

When Wahoo Cray’s dad—a professional animal wrangler—takes a job with a reality TV show called Expedition Survival!, Wahoo figures he'll have to do a bit of wrangling himself to keep his father from killing Derek Badger, the show's inept and egotistical star. But the job keeps getting more complicated: Derek Badger insists on using wild animals for his stunts; and Wahoo's acquired a shadow named Tuna—a girl who's sporting a shiner courtesy of her father and needs a place to hide out.

They've only been on location in the Everglades for a day before Derek gets bitten by a bat and goes missing in a storm. Search parties head out and promptly get lost themselves. And then Tuna's dad shows up with a gun . . .

It's anyone's guess who will actually survive Expedition Survival. . .

“Only in Florida—and in the fiction of its native son Carl Hiaasen—does a dead iguana fall from a palm tree and kill somebody.” —New York Post

Chomp is a delightful laugh-out-loud sendup of the surreality of TV that will be enjoyed by readers of all ages.” —Los Angeles Times

Chomp shines in its humorous, subtle tweaks on pop culture. . . . The real satisfaction, however, is not so much in the book’s humor but in its truth.” —Time Out Chicago Kids

It's super good

I decided to read this book because it has an award and because my mom recommended it for me to read.

I think you should read the book flush because it is interesting with lots of detail and different scenes and a hand full of different charecters.

i want to read it

This boy who lives in a zoo, Wahoo Cray, and his dad are hired to keep a reality show star, Derek Badger, from killing himself when he works with animals. Tuna, an abused girl, joins the mix and Derek disappears; no one can find him. A fun read about reality television.

He doesn't live in a zoo; his dad's an animal wrangler!

This book is about a boy and his father who are animal wranglers. A TV show asks them to help them navigate through the Everglades. When a girl comes with them her father comes and holds the crew hostage, who will save the day? If you like animals and adventures you will love this book.

I have read Hoot and I am about half way through Flush and I really liked them so I think I will like this one to! My favorite of the 2 is Flush so far.

This book is kind of confusing to write a review on because it has lots of different parts and lots of things are happening at the same time. I don't know why it's called Chomp because people only got chomped a few times and only one person who got chomped by an alligator.

Chomp is about a boy named Wahoo and his dad. His mom went on a job in China, so him and his dad got called to do a tv show called Expedition Survival. This book had a few good parts like when the star of the show wrestled a tamed alligator named Alice, but this isn't really a book I would read again.

"Chomp" by Carl Hiaasen is a very entertaining story about a boy named Wahoo Cray. He and his father are animal wranglers, and they tame wild animals, such as alligators, in their backyard. A popular reality TV show called 'Expedition Survival!' invites Wahoo and his father to help on set because they using their animals. Wahoo embarks on a journey that involves his friend Tuna, her father (a drunkard and a gunman), and the famous Derek Badger, who is the star of the show. Wahoo and the 'crew' face dilemmas during filming; for example, Derek Badger goes missing, and Tuna's father is after his daughter who runs away from him. Read this book to find out how these problems are solved!

I just started it but it sounds funny!
