One lie snowballs into a full-blown double life in this irresistible story about an aspiring stand-up comedian.

On the outside, Yumi Chung suffers from #shygirlproblems, a perm-gone-wrong, and kids call her "Yu-MEAT" because she smells like her family's Korean barbecue restaurant. On the inside, Yumi is ready for her Netflix stand-up special. Her notebook is filled with mortifying memories that she's reworked into comedy gold. All she needs is a stage and courage.

Instead of spending the summer studying her favorite YouTube comedians, Yumi is enrolled in test-prep tutoring to qualify for a private school scholarship, which will help in a time of hardship at the restaurant. One day after class, Yumi stumbles on an opportunity that will change her life: a comedy camp for kids taught by one of her favorite YouTube stars. The only problem is that the instructor and all the students think she's a girl named Kay Nakamura--and Yumi doesn't correct them.

As this case of mistaken identity unravels, Yumi must decide to stand up and reveal the truth or risk losing her dreams and disappointing everyone she cares about.

Yumi Chung really, really wants to be a comedian when she is an adult, but her Korean parents told her to get " a real education " and " a real job ". She and her parents own a Korean Barbecue restaurant, which at the time is having financial problems. So when she finds a comedy club just for kids her age, her parents say..... NO. The she finds out her older sister, Yuri, dropped out of medical school and is joining the Peace Corps. In the end, when her parents find out she has been missing Hanson and stop and identity, it is all a big, big mess. But in the end it all works out and they all find a way to save the restaurant! This book shows a lot of comedy and diversity, but it also includes Yumi being bullied in school the year before. At the end of the day, I highly, highly recommend reading this book if you want a high dose of comedy, and if you want a feel good book.

Oh my gosh Yumi Chung is just like me! I once had a dream myself of becoming an amazing artist but my loved ones didn't want me too. So I had to disappoint them in becoming my own person and It made something beautiful out of me. I pray for the same for all of you and good luck Yumi Chung! Bless you all.

Stand Up Yumi Chung is a great book that inspires kids of all ages to be your true self. Yumi Chung loves comedy, only her parents don't approve of it. They want Yumi to be more like her sister and focus on her education to get good job. They even send her to a tutoring place to get her prepared! However, when Yumi finds out there is a comedy club right where she lives, she can't resist going inside, and that's when things start to get weird. Yumi gets mistaken for an absent girl named Kay, and Yumi doesn't correct them. It's her chance to be who SHE wants to be, and not her parents. But what will happen when her parents and new friends from comedy camp figure out about her identity? How can she balance both her lives and not let her secret slip, especially when her family restaurant is losing money? Yumi is forced to make a choice: Either be the person she wants to be, or let her parents decide her future for her. This book has everything to show that just being yourself is enough, and you get to do whatever makes you happy in life. I rate this book 4 stars!

This book was really good! Yumi Chang is very shy and has a secret. She loves comedy. The only problem is that her parents don't approve of her comedy dream. Yumi is supposed to be studying for summer school, but instead she sneaks into a comedy camp. And the instructor is...her favorite comedian! At first, Yumi just plans to sneak in and watch a bit. Watching a little of comedy and her favorite comedian can't hurt, right? But then she gets spotted. Everyone thinks she's Kay Nakamura, another student that was supposed to be there. Yumi doesn't deny it. Her life turns great! The instructor thinks she's great and she has so much fun. Yumi almost has two lives. Her's- Yumi Chang and Kay Nakamura- at comedy camp. But...what will happen when Kay and Yumi's parents and comedian find out she's faking? This book twists Korean food, comedy, and laughter into a beautiful book. Happy reading! 5/5 stars.
