Liu Xiannghui's 98-year old grandmother, who rarely asked for anything, had a wish - She wanted to watch the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics live. How could Liu refuse?

So Liu and his grandmother, Xiao Xincui, who live in the Ningyuan County of Central China's Hunan Province, set off for Beijing - on a modified 'caravan' tricycle, with Liu peddling all the way!

Liu, who owns an automobile repair shop, spent about $263USD modifying the tricycle so that his grandmother would be comfortable.

He says that while it would have been cheaper and easier to bring his grandmother by train or plane, he had chosen this mode of transport, because he wanted her to see the beautiful landscape on the way. Especially since, she has never been very far from her hometown.

They rode across the country for a month, arriving in Beijing on April 6th. Since then, they have been living in a rented house waiting for the opening ceremony. As people find out about their journey, they have become famous all across China. One good Samaritan even gave them tickets to watch the track and field competition on August 22nd.

Judging from Xiao Xincui's big smile and the victory sign she flashes at everyone she meets, this has definitely been an amazing experience for her - one she will remember for the rest of her remaining life!
