If you don't succeed the first time try again and again and..........well until you do! Four-year old Porterhouse, certainly seems to believe in that, for he has been trying to win the title of America's 'Most Beautiful Bulldog' for the last four years.

The bulldog who has won two runner-up titles and one Mr. Congeniality title, finally got his day in the sun last weekend, when he beat out fifty other equally attractive bulldogs to become America's 'Most Beautiful Bulldog'.

Porterhouse's winning strategy was to elegantly walk the runway donned in army-inspired attire, with the following poem being read in the background.

"My name is Porterhouse like a piece of steak. I'm the ultimate fan of this great school called Drake. To be in 'Spike's Army' I'm incredibly proud. I hope my unrefined beauty impresses the crowd. Dressed in 'cameo' I'm strutting my stuff, hoping that this year I'm beautiful enough."

When the winner was announced, his owner, Kevin Bell was a little nervous about how Porterhouse would behave. However, he needn't have worried, as this beauty regally sat on his throne and patiently allowed the Mayor of Des Moines to drape a ribbon with the key of the city, around his neck.

Now in its 30th year, the Beautiful Bulldog Contest is organized by Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and is one of the events leading up to the Drake Relays, one of the nation's oldest and most prestigious track and field competitions.

Besides winning the title, Porterhouse, also gets to be the mascot at this weekend's 100th anniversary of the famed relay competition, taking over from last year's winner, Buddy.
