The year's best and brightest celestial show, the Geminid Meteor showers is going now - And tomorrow December 13th, is when the fireballs will be at their highest intensity. The best part? They can be seen from almost any place on Earth.

The optimal time to see them will be after 11pm local time Monday all the way through sunrise Tuesday morning, when they will be zooming down in pairs, almost every minute. While there many other meteor showers throughout the year, the Geminids are considered the best because of their high intensity, which means they can be seen even in areas with bright lights, and because they travel much more slowly than other meteor showers, they are easier to view. They are also massive in terms of the debris they spew out each year.

However, what makes the Geminids meteors even more interesting is the mystery behind their origination. While most meteor showers come from comets, Geminids seem to be spewing from a strange rocky object named 3200 Phaethon. But what the scientists still have no idea is how this rock, which sheds very little debris is able to stage the biggest show of the year. There have been several theories, but none of them make sense, when tested.

So for now, just pick up a warm blanket, head to the woods and enjoy the mysterious free celestial show that nature is about to treat us with. Be sure to make a wish or two while you are out there! With Christmas right round the corner, they are bound to come true. Happy Stargazing!
