Most Shuttle missions involve transporting and installing serious equipment like laboratories or repair modules. However, the latest mission flew up something more fun - A seven-windowed lookout, which will allow the scientists to enjoy panoramic views of earth, celestial objects and visiting spacecraft, while they work.

The 18-ton observation deck, dubbed 'Tranquility' is a 5ft tall, 10ft. wide, dome shaped structure, that comprises of a large circular window, surrounded by six trapezoid-shaped windows.

Tranquility's windows are made with a special glass designed to protect astronauts from solar radiation. They are also equipped with shutters, that will prevent them from being damaged by small meteorites that collide with the International Space Station, as it orbits around the earth.

After hoisting it in place on Friday, the astronauts conducted two spacewalks to connect the structure to the heating and cooling systems. Later this week, the observation deck will be equipped with a robotic space station, allowing astronauts to enjoy the views as they go about their work day.

While the observation deck is ready to use, the astronauts are planning to add a few more enhancements, such as a toilet, oxygen generator, water re-cycling equipment and exercise machines, so that it can double up as a second living area, where the astronauts can relax and take in the breath-taking views.
