This was...mediocre at best. Throughout the entire book, I tried to find the appeal that first drew me to read it, but it's Just. So. Boring. The plot isn't very good. I thought it would be powerful and emotional, but really, it was just plain and very slow. The characters are not the best either. There's a stereotypical genius protagonist, Willow Chance, who seems to attract the attention of all even though her only personality trait is being brilliant. Then there are the secondary characters. A lot of them try to be funny or ironic but are, in fact, very annoying and/or bland. If you like stand-alone novels about loss and healing, or you're interested in narration from the point of view of a "child prodigy," then this book might be of interest to you. Otherwise, I'm sorry to say, this book is not as good as the summary leads you to believe.

I truly wanted to like this book. I did not. In All This Time, the protagonist, Kyle Lafferty, gets broken up with by his lifelong girl Kimberly right off the bat. Then, while they're fighting in Kyle's car about why they don't work together anymore, there's a freak storm that causes Kyle and Kimberly to get in a car crash. Kyle wakes up to learn that Kim is dead. Unable to cope, he defers his dream school, UCLA, which he was supposed to go to in September. After months of nightmares and not really living, he meets Marley, a sweet girl who shares similar trauma. Slowly, they fall in love while trying to heal together. But what first seems like an okay story takes a complete turn, and there are so many twists and inexplicable events that the story doesn't make any sense at all by the end. There are so many attempts at plot twists and shocking the reader that it's a confusing, nonsensical pile of pages. The beautiful cover and the famous authors first attracted me, but now, I can't look at this book the same way. Please do not let yourself down by reading this. It is truly confusing and overwhelming.

This book is heartwrenching, thrilling, and gorgeously written. The protagonists are Day, the most notorious criminal in the nation of the Republic, and June, known as the Republic's most gifted teenager. While they seem to be as different as different can be, their paths begin to cross when Day allegedly kills June's brother and June vows to hunt him down for it. While this novel could be written off as a typical dystopian book, I feel that the characters and world are multifaceted enough to stand their ground and create a wholly unique literary universe. Lu's writing style is concise, suspenseful, and enchanting. There's no denying certain flaws within each character, yet it's also impossible not to root for our brilliant-minded heroes while booing the enemy. What was first a required book on my school reading list quickly became one that I dreamed, lived, and breathed for days, eager for more of the story. With these things in mind, I rest my case that this novel is one of the best I have read.
