The hysterical #1 New York Times bestseller from Newbery honoree Carl Hiaasen featuring gators, snakes, bats that bite, and reality show hosts gone wild!

When Wahoo Cray’s dad—a professional animal wrangler—takes a job with a reality TV show called Expedition Survival!, Wahoo figures he'll have to do a bit of wrangling himself to keep his father from killing Derek Badger, the show's inept and egotistical star. But the job keeps getting more complicated: Derek Badger insists on using wild animals for his stunts; and Wahoo's acquired a shadow named Tuna—a girl who's sporting a shiner courtesy of her father and needs a place to hide out.

They've only been on location in the Everglades for a day before Derek gets bitten by a bat and goes missing in a storm. Search parties head out and promptly get lost themselves. And then Tuna's dad shows up with a gun . . .

It's anyone's guess who will actually survive Expedition Survival. . .

Chomp is a delightful laugh-out-loud sendup of the surreality of TV that will be enjoyed by readers of all ages.” —Los Angeles Times

Chomp shines in its humorous, subtle tweaks on pop culture. . . . The real satisfaction, however, is not so much in the book’s humor but in its truth.” —Time Out Chicago Kids

The name of my book is Chomp by Carl Hiaasen. This book is about a kid named Wahoo and his dad named Mickey. Wahoo's dad recently got his skull cracked by a dead iguana that had fallen from a tree. Wahoo's Mom now works in China. Then one day a tv show calls Mickey Cray and Wahoo and they agree to let the tv show film with there animals. The tv show comes to the Cray's backyard and films with their animals. There are so many mistakes that the tv show decided then to hire Mickey cray as a wrangler and film the show in the real Everglades and they also take an abused girl named Tuna who is a huge fan of the tv show and from then on many twists and turns await them. I enjoyed this book beaches of the comedy and adventure in the book. There a lot of great sarcastic jokes and plain just really funny jokes. Also while the recording of the tv show there are a lot of small adventures in this part of the book. That is why I enjoyed this book. This book is realistic fiction because there was not actual a kid and his dad who had a zoo in there backyard and the kids mom worked in China and that the dad got his skull cracked by a dead iguana, also get a job for a fake survival tv show. But this can happen in real life. That is why this book is realistic fiction. I believe that the type of reader/audience that would like this book would be someone who likes animals and adventure. This is because the book includes lots of animals and many twists and turns and stunts for adventure readers. This book is fine for both boys and girls. A external conflict is man vs man when Mr.Cray meets Derek Badger they do not like each other and they begin to fight through the the entire process of filming the tv show. An internal conflict is the feelings Wahoo has for Tuna he likes her as a friend but also likes her as a girlfriend. Wahoo is torn between these two choices about how he feels about Tuna.

My book Chomp by Carl Hiaasen a Rebecca Caudill Nominee this year, was a very good book. A summary for the book is that it is about a boy named Wahoo and his dad Mickey who in their back yard have wild animals that they use for Television shows. The story mainly begins where a TV star Derek Badger from a survival show recruits Wahoo and Mickey to have their animals on the show. During this time Derek is not really a survivalist, and knows nothing which gives him dangerous trouble with the animals. We also meet Raven in this time with job of handling Derek and she also comes up a lot in the scenes. Later Derek says he wants to shoot the rest in the Everglades all real which they accepted. During this time in the Everglades Wahoo meets with his friend Tuna (a girl who gets beaten by her dad Jared), and Derek also gets hurt by a bat and runs away thinking he is a vampire. And if you want to hear more you have to read to find out My opinion was that it was a good book. I liked the boom for the reason that there was always something going on, like at the start with the cool information about their life. Or the crazy incidents with Derek on the show, and definitely the action full ending. The genre is definitely realistic fiction because there are people that lend animals for livings and probably survivalist shows with people that don't know what they're doing. And there is a for sure possibility of incidents with abusive drunk father's. An audience that would like this book is an audience that likes things to be always happening and the reason is like said before it has many wired crazy moments. Which this is rather than a slow build up to a big moment. An internal conflict in the book was man vs. self, when Wahoo had to decide to accept the real show in the Everglades or not because Mickey wanted to quit. An external conflict was man vs. man, when Wahoo, Tuna, or Mickey, would fight Jared.

I loved this good book. Chomp is about a boy named Wahoo, and his dad is a hired animal wrangler who sells animals that he has to movie productions, like Expedition Survival. But it is a nice book, and teaches a lot about how good a well molded friendship is, like the one between Tuna and Wahoo.

I enjoyed Chomp a lot. It's about this kid named Wahoo who pretty much has a zoo in his backyard because his dad is an animal wrangler. Then his dad takes a job with a reality-TV show called Expedition Survival to keep the pudgy star of the show, Derek Badger, from being killed by the animals he messes with. When they go to the Everglades to make a new episode, a girl named Tuna comes along to escape from her crazy dad. When Derek gets lost in a storm and Tuna's dad comes looking for Tuna with a gun, it brings chaos, and it's up to Wahoo and Tuna to try to settle everything. It's really exciting and I liked the book.

The details are fuzzy, but I can say that I DON'T recommend the audio book.
