Between the Padres and the Chargers, San Diego has some great sports teams. However, neither have been able to do what the young boys from Chula Vista's Park View team, 'Blue Bombers', just did - bring home the championship trophy!

The exciting showdown between the Blue Bombers and the Taoyauan team from Taiwan took place at the Howard J. Lamade Stadium in South Williamsport on Sunday, August 30th.

Things looked a little shaky at the beginning as the foreigners started the game with a bang, hitting back-to-back homers in the first third, giving them a 3-0 lead.

However, the lads from Chula Vista were no pushovers and soon took control of the game, by scoring a run in the first third too. After that, there was no looking back - The champions firmly established their lead by ending the game with a formidable 6-3 lead.

After the game, the jubilant kids ran the customary championship lap around the historical stadium and started to make plans to go home to celebrate with their friends and family and bring back the trophy to the county after a drought of almost half a century.

The first Little League World series was held in South Williamsport, PA in 1947, as a venue for boys between 11-13 years of age, to compete on a national level. However, soon the event became so popular that it opened up to international ball teams too.

Today, the event which still takes place at the same location in August each year, comprises of 16 teams, split evenly between the US and International competitors. While international teams dominated the championship in the early years, the last seven years have belonged to the US, and now the 'Blue Bombers' have helped extend the streak for yet another year!
