Coming Soon - A Smart Phone That Curls Up!

Cell phones have sure come a long way since the first 2.5 lb monster was unveiled just 40 years ago. Thanks to innovative companies like Apple Inc., we have evolved from keypad to touch-screen. But if you think that we are done with phone innovation, think again - Thanks to some Canadian inventors we may soon be swapping our rigid & thick (yes thick!), smart devices with flexible, paper-thin versions.

Dubbed MorePhone, this new device is the brainchild of a team of researchers from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. Built on the flexible screen technology that has been developed by UK-based Plastic Logic, it is capable of doing everything current smart phones can do, except in a much cooler way, thanks to its shape-changing body!

That means instead of ringing or vibrating when a text, call or e-mail comes in, it simply curls up. What's even cooler is that thanks to the shape memory alloy wires embedded inside, the 'type' of curl can be customized. For example, a curl on the top right hand corner could indicate an incoming text, whilst one on the bottom could signal an e-mail. As for when a call comes in? The entire phone can curl up into a ball and if the user wishes to ignore it, all he/she has to do, is uncurl it!

However, don't toss out those rigid, thick smart phones yet. That's because the MorePhone, which was unveiled at a technology conference in Paris last week, is still very much in the prototype stage and probably not available for purchase, for another 5-8 years!

I would not want a bendable phone. Also it would be better in color.
